Someone Who Cares

The strangest thing just happened today,

An invisible mailman just passed my way.

He handed me an envelope that just wasn’t there,

And the name stated “someone who cares”.

I open the envelope very wide,

But to my surprise there was nothing inside.

I read the words that just weren’t there,

And as hard as I stared I saw nothing but air.

The fragrance was familiar as I recall,

But then I realize there was no smell at all.

A letter from you is the highlight of my day,

And I watch the clock waiting for what you might say.

But when the mailman just passed my door,

It seems to hurt more than ever before.

So I’m writing you, because it seems you forgot,

And thanks for the letter I never got.

Hopefully today you will think twice,

And pay close attention to these words of advice.

I may be locked up for now,

But I will be free someday, somehow.

Then I will be out there where things are much better,

And this could be “you” expecting a letter.
